I was sitting on the computer the other day just browsing. My finance and I were singing an old song from the 80’s or 90’s when my finance starting singing an old hip hop song. We did not know the words to the song so we decided to look the words up, (I know we need to get a life, right). Well, while we were singing this song as we remember we actually just start focusing on the words. Talking about horrible, oh my goodness. I could not even understand what they were saying. We had to read some sentences over and over again. I begin to think do people really speak this way. I begin to check myself and realize that I sometimes don’t speak proper English. I correct my children each time they speak using double negatives, fragments, and incorrect word order. I figured that I have a Bachelor’s degree in business and took plenty of business communication class that each time I open my mouth it should reflect my education. Not saying that I am better than anyone, but most of the time when I am IMing my friends they ask me, “Why do you speak in complete sentences when your IMing.”  I thought about it long and hard, and honestly I could not come with an answer. If I type in complete sentence and not use slang, why can’t I speak the same? So I have vowed to keep slang out of my vocabulary. It may seem hard, but in the long run speaking intelligently will take me further.
