Does God Hate?

This is an important question for our own examination as it will reveal the character of the Living God of the Bible.

Firstly, I must give a standard from the Bible about God's hatred toward sin and sinners.  So as painful as this may be for some, just like good medicine the cure is better than the medicine and the disease.

Ps 5:4-6 4 For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, Nor shall evil dwell with You. The boastful shall not stand in Your sight;
You hate all workers of iniquity.  You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

Now, many in our day have come up with a trite Christian slogan which goes like this, "God hates the sin, but loves the sinner!"  But, this clearly is not what the Bible teaches.  If that were the case then God would strip sin from us on Judgment Day and cast the sin into Hell and let the sinner into Heaven.  But, this scenario that many have conjured up in thier minds is not the truth.

John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Psalm 7:11-16 God is a just judge, And God is angry with the wicked every day.  If he does not turn back,  He will sharpen His sword; He bends His bow and makes it ready.  He also prepares for Himself instruments of death; He makes His arrows into fiery shafts. Behold, the wicked brings forth iniquity;  Yes, he conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood. He made a pit and dug it out, And has fallen into the ditch which he made. His trouble shall return upon his own head, And his violent dealing shall come down on his own crown.

What should we deduct from these very clear scriptures?  That God is Holy, He will not overlook sin, and there is a day of Judgment to come.  Well, if those things are true then what should an unbeliever do?  Turn to Christ and be washed by the blood spilt for you.  What should the believer do?  You must proclaim the Truth!  In eternity you will no longer be able to share your faith in Christ with anyone.  Salt stings brothers and sisters but it also heals.  Jesus said in Matt 10:32-33, "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."  Christian if you are not verbalizing your faith of Jesus, you are denying Him before men.  Examine yourself before the judgement seat of the Lion of Judah, before it is too late for you.
