Gas Prices

I believe these gas prices of $4 and $5 are getting a little out there.
Why do we have to depend on other countries for our oil? We should be
able to take care of our own needs then we wouldn’t be in this mess. Or
is this just a ploy from the oilmen to get those prices up there to
make money. Either way something has to be done about the economy of
the US before it all goes down the drain.

I don't think there is some magical fix for this. It is the same solution that tree huggers have been telling everyone for decades.
Ride a bike, car pool, use public transportation, don't make unnecessary trips.
Then it becomes a simple issue of supply and demand.

Offshore drilling is a must. We need alternative energy supplies. The Republicans want to drill but the Dems in Congress are blocking it. Go figure!

There are several issues to consider. Yes there is increased demand from China. However, one must look at U.S.' loose fiscal policy, which can be linked to the depreciation of the dollar. Since OPEC member nations price oil in dollars (though this may change), some countries aren't affected as much since their currencies are appreciating against the dollar.
