I can't be the only one who wants to see this.

So, Hellboy II hits theaters today. Now I have been more then let down by the recent "flux" of comic book films. They have for the most part, been pretentious attempts at latching onto a popular franchise name and trying to make some worth out of it, this seems to be changing. I actually have some motivation to see both Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk (granted I haven't gone running out the door to see either yet).
We are now getting "The Dark Knight" Christopher Nolan's latest installment of his adaptation of the Batman Franchise. Which is arguably the best adaptation since Tim Burton's original 1989 release.
What this is about however, is Hellboy II. While these other Comic book adaptations have focused heavily on special effects (which I am sure Hellboy will as well) what they have failed miserably at doing is driving focus into the art of it all. Most comic book fans are initially in it for the ART, the story then follows. The second installment of Hellboy seems to have the motivation to fill that void. The first film failed to do this and fell alongside many of the other "Superhero" films in regards to the lack of a decent artistic approach.
This time around, I think we might actually have something worth noting.

It played fine for me. I really liked the first one. Corny but the special effects are awesome! This sort of comic book action seems to be coming back. We must need heros or something these days.

My wife has had the same problem with Comic Book movies. I say let it go. Go into the thing as it is intended. Enjoy the mindless wonder of it all and walk away refreshed for having learned nothing and wasted a good two hours of your life. Just have fun and enjoy the movie. Please don't be a person that would walk out saying "That was so fake." I hate that. It's a comic. Watch the first "King Kong" Now that was Fake

I can not wait to see it. It lets us get a glimpse of what we think lurks in the dark when we sleep at night.
