Did the Mayor abuse his power in Ticketgate? If this would have been anyone else, what would have happened?
Jamell Jones and Diana Knight accused one another of negligence in the car accident at the Stoney Point and Gillis Hill intersection back in October. A Fayetteville police officer cited Knight for running a red light. Then Knight's husband, who used to be a deputy garrison commander at Fort Bragg phoned Mayor Chavonne and complained. The police voided the ticket. This gets better. Police then charged Jones with running the stop light and causing the accident. Fayetteville citizens became upset becasue the Mayor showed favoritism to Knight. The City Counsel criticized the Mayor and he then said he was sorry. The City Counsel then voted to re-issue the ticket against Knight but the County DA took control and conducted his own investigation. In the end, no one was charged. Why not?
