A Wake County man out walking his dog Monday evening found a body floating in a pond that police believe could be that of a Cary woman missing since Saturday.
Investigators said that pond is located off Fielding Road about one mile from the home of missing jogger Nancy Cooper.
Cary police Chief Pat Bazemore said. "There is a possibility that this could be our Nancy. We are working with the Wake County Sheriff's Department, we have notified Nancy's family, as well as the leaders of our extraordinary volunteer group".
Cooper, 33, went for a run Saturday morning and never returned home. That set off an exhaustive search for her over the weekend that lasted through Monday. However,Search teams did not look in the Lochmere area where the body was found. They stuck mainly to the trails that Cooper frequented on her morning jogs
Cooper is married and has two children. Her family is from Canada, and her twin sister arrived in Cary on Monday.
The body is being taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office for a positive identification and autopsy.
