It was said of Eleanor Roosevelt upon her death and observed by Adlai Stevenson, that she was a woman who "would rather light a candle than curse the darkness", and I was reminded of this quotation as I stood in the congregation of my church, Holy Trinity Episcopal in Haymont, during a recent Sunday service when several children were baptized. Sometimes the simple act of lighting a candle, witnessing the flame burst to life where before there was none, is a symbolism that crosses the line from the sacred to the secular, and is an image we can carry with us in our day to day lives when perhaps we are feeling blue ourselves.
Light can spring from darkness where before there was none.
I wish my readers a very pleasant day.
