The Fayetteville Fire Department has again been recognized for its impact on multi-culturalism and educational influence with work on the station 14 project.

The department was one of seven finalists for the International Association of Fire Chiefs - Fire Service Award for Excellence. The Fayetteville Fire Department encourages minorities to enter the firefighting field through a fire science curriculum partnership with Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville Technical Community College and E.E. Smith High School.

The nomination was made by Asheville Fire Chief Greg Grayson.

Station 14 opened in 2005 and is history making because it is one of the first stations nationwide to be used for the development of minority firefighters via the fire science curriculum. The Fayetteville Fire Department developed the program with the partner schools.

Station 14, located at 632 Langdon Street across from Fayetteville State University, also received the National League of Cities’ gold Howland Award for Municipal Enrichment in 2005 and FIRE CHIEF Magazine’s 2006 Bronze Award for Combined-Use.
