Many stations off I-40 charging lower rates for gasoline than those in Fayetteville and surrounding area. Why?
Why the disparity in gas prices?
While driving through Garner on US Highway 401 Tueday morning, I noticed that several self service gas stations were charging only $3.56 a gallon for gas instead of the $3.72 to $3.86 seen on pumps in and around Fayetteville. Why the disparity? My rider had just come from a trip to and from Michigan by automobile and said most of the fuel costs were relatively the same throughout the trip. This drop in fuel prices is a radical measure from the $3.99 prices we were seeing at the beginning of the summer season. With the recent news of the price per barrel of crude at or around $122 and the Exxon Shareholders revenues higher than any other company for the same period, the reduction of the price per gallon should be raising eyebrows of suspicion among those most deeply affected by the outrageous prices. Nevertheless, it would be nice also for the price gougers of the Fayetteville area to follow the lead as in South Raleigh and Garner in lowering fuel prices. It remains to be seen.
